Running on the debit system: personal

by admin

The basic challenge in life is creating an emotional framework, in those dealings that you have with people every day, and from time to time, that consistently pays interest. A framework where a simple smile, a thank you, a glance…delivered with a moment of connection and sincerity…becomes a deposit that pays back.

How that payment comes most likely depends on what sort of emotional currency you deal in.

But the question of how those payments come to you assumes that you’ve built up a credit. And that is a broad assumption. We live in an economy where debt–the promise of paying later in order to satisfy a need now–is the primary currency. The promise of future payment somehows devalues the basis of the present currency. That is true of our emotional framework as well. Too many of us look for satisfaction from others now, immediately, without building up the credits we need.
