There are all kinds of silence. When I listen to Johnny Cash I’m struck by the way he struggles to resign himself to the pell-mell chaos of life, and how his frustrations turn into a simmering anger. Then there are the quiet moments that get captured in photos. It’s like he’s pulled over onto a rest stop. The journey’s not over. It’s long yet. He’s going to rest for a little. And then he’s going to go back at it. Over and over again.
