When he played, he listened. Monk was like that too…listening. Welcoming the space, the rhythm of the air, the vibration of sound that shifted and lingered. In that torrent, when emotion gets captured by music and loosens control, Davis listened for the moment. The right pitch. The attack. The note. And strung one after another beat by beat, measure by measure.
