Perpetual care

by DRM

My great grandfather John W. Rogers rests under this lawn somewhere.  He died in January 1920 in Little Rock.  His wife Maggie had died 15 years earlier.  His daughter Hortense and his mother-in-law Henrietta had died in the plague of 1918.  His son Louis and his daughter Margaret were raised in a foster home.   His contract for perpetual care has been lost in the records of Oaklawn Cemetery, his unmarked grave notated only in the original burial book by row and lot.  My visit was likely the first in 100 years, and very likely the last.  A great grandson paying his respects to an anonymous man.
