Emo­tion is, in fact, a rudi­men­tary sys­tem that we have to adapt to the more com­plex sys­tems, such as cul­ture and civ­i­liza­tion, that have evolved to help assure the best pos­si­ble behav­iors for the prop­a­ga­tion of the species.
